Celebrating 40 Years of Dedicated Service
Lago Vista Police Department: A Commitment to Community Safety
As Lago Vista's population continues to grow, the Lago Vista Police Department (LVPD) has embraced a proactive approach to ensure the safety and well-being of the community. Initially, the department comprised just three officers serving a small town of a few hundred residents. Today, in response to the area's expansion, the police force has increased to over 21 officers—a remarkable growth of 600%—which is expected to rise further. The LVPD is dedicated to fostering a safe, enjoyable, and family-friendly environment by building strong community partnerships and collaborating with residents. We pride ourselves on our commitment to integrity and excellence in law enforcement, respecting the unique traditions and diversity that define our community.
The Evolution of LAGO VISTA PD
In 1985, Lago Vista was still mostly undeveloped when Eugene Schoonover became the first Chief of Police. He established the authority of the City Police Department, and on April 15, 1985, the first three officers began their service. Chief Schoonover's unwavering dedication to law and order laid a strong foundation for the future success and growth of the Lago Vista Police Department (LVPD) within the community.
After Chief Schoonover, Frank Miller was appointed Chief of Police around 1988 and served until his retirement in 2001. Danny Smith then took over as Chief of Police on February 1, 2001, leading the department until his retirement in January 2022. Robert Sherwin briefly served as Interim Chief during this transition before Gary A. Boshears was appointed as Chief of Police on September 1, 2022.
The LVPD remains committed to serving and supporting the community.
LAGO VISTA PD'S ONGOING COMMITMENT TO THE COMMUNITY
The Lago Vista Police Department has always prioritized the needs of its citizens, and this commitment remains strong today through various local outreach events held throughout the year.
As we approach our 40th anniversary of serving the community, we want to express our heartfelt gratitude to the residents of Lago Vista for their unwavering support. The area is experiencing unprecedented growth, and it will require a dedicated team to successfully navigate these changes.
LOOKING AHEAD
With an eye toward the future, the Lago Vista Police Department is excited to continue evolving alongside our vibrant community. We are committed to enhancing our services and expanding our outreach initiatives to meet the diverse needs of our residents. Together, we will build a safer and more connected Lago Vista, where every individual feels valued and protected.
As we celebrate our past, we remain focused on our mission: to serve and protect with honor, integrity, and compassion. We understand that the foundation of effective policing lies in trust and collaboration with the community we serve. By actively engaging with residents, listening to their concerns, and fostering open lines of communication, we aim to create a supportive environment where everyone can thrive.
Looking ahead, we will continue to invest in training and resources for our officers, ensuring they are well-equipped to handle the challenges of modern law enforcement. We will embrace innovative technologies and best practices that enhance our ability to respond to emergencies, prevent crime, and improve community safety.
As we embark on this journey into the future, we invite all residents of Lago Vista to join us in our commitment to making our community a better place for all. Together, we can cultivate a culture of safety, respect, and inclusion—where every citizen plays an integral role in shaping the future of Lago Vista. Thank you for your continued support as we work hand in hand to foster a community that is not only safe but also welcoming and vibrant for generations to come.
