Paul Chrane was hired as the Captain of the Lago Vista Police Department in November 2022 and promoted to Interim Chief of Police in August 2025. He began his law enforcement career in 2002 as a Deputy Jailer with the Lubbock County Sheriff’s Office. Shortly thereafter, he enrolled in the South Plains Association of Government Regional Law Enforcement Academy, graduating as valedictorian of the 2003 Day Academy class and receiving his Peace Office License. He took his first patrol job as a Deputy for the Garza County Sheriff’s Office until moving to Central Texas in late 2005. There, he began working for the Bastrop County Sheriff’s Office as a patrol officer before becoming the Estray Deputy and Animal/Livestock Cruelty Investigator. He then reserved for the Garza County Sheriff’s Office from 2008 to 2010 while helping run a family-owned business.

He returned to full-time law enforcement with the Burnet County Sheriff’s Office in 2010 until joining the Granite Shoals Police Department as a patrol officer in 2013. He was promoted to CID Sergeant in May 2016 and remained with Granite Shoals PD until 2021. In 2022, he returned to Burnet County Sheriff’s Office, serving as a Court Security Deputy and the IT Project Manager before getting the opportunity to return to work for Chief Boshears in Lago Vista.

As part of his continuing education, Interim Chief Chrane has accumulated nearly 3000 training hours. He currently holds a certification through TCOLE as a Master Peace Officer, Sexual Assault/Family Violence Investigator, Basic Instructor, Firearm Instructor, and Field Training Officer. Interim Chief Chrane has begun working toward earning the Texas Police Chiefs Association Foundation Law Enforcement Command Officer Program (LECOP) certification. He was also recently accepted into the Bill Blackwood Law Enforcement Management Institute of Texas Leadership Command College, (LEMIT LCC) law enforcement leadership development program.
