Residential Garbage
The City of Lago Vista contracts with Progressive Waste Solutions to provide solid waste collection service to the city's residents. However, the City maintains administration of the program.
If you have any questions or needs regarding trash or recycling services, please call our City Utilities Department at 512-267-1155. Please do not call Progressive Waste Solutions.
Trash is picked up once per week, and recycling is picked up every other week. For new customers, garbage and recycling carts are provided and will be delivered to your residence upon requesting utility service.
Holiday Trash Pickup Schedule
If regularly scheduled garbage/recycling pickup lands on Thanksgiving, Christmas, or New Year's Day, then holiday pickup will slide forward one day to accommodate for Waste Connections' holiday vacation days.
Placing Your Bins at the Curb
Garbage and recycling carts must be placed curbside within 5 feet of the curbside or right-of-way adjacent to the residential unit, with the cart facing the street and the wheels next to the curb, no later than 7 am on your scheduled collection day. We suggest setting bins out the evening before. Garbage and recycling are collected by different trucks and will not be picked up at the same time.
In accordance with the City of Lago Vista Code of Ordinances, Chapter 6 Health and Sanitation, Article 6.100 Garbage and Rubbish, Section 6.102 (f) General Regulations, "Each dwelling shall have solid waste containers which must be inaccessible to dogs and other animals and which should be concealed insofar as possible from viewing from a public street or adjoining properties. Arrangements should be made for waste pick up so that containers are visible on waste pick up days and are immediately returned to normal storage areas within twelve (12) hours after trash pick-up."
Contents
Up to three additional bags will be picked up in addition to any trash and/or recycling bins. Any additional bags should have a maximum capacity of 35 gallons and may not exceed 35 pounds.
Tree, shrub, and brush trimmings, newspapers, and magazines are accepted if they are securely tied together forming an easily handled package not exceeding cubic yards (6 feet by 3 feet by 3 feet), 4-foot lengths, 4-inch diameter or exceeding 50 pounds. You may also take tree, shrub, and brush trimmings to the City's Green Center on the 1st Thursday & Saturday of each month. Visit the Green Center page for more information.
Bulky Items
Citizens may place a total of up to 2 cubic yards of bulky waste items, such as refrigerators and freezers (if they are bearing a sticker certifying that the Freon has been removed by a certified technician), stoves, water heaters, washers, dryers, furniture, and other similar household waste items, by their trash cart on collection days. Please note, however, that on occasion the trucks may run out of space for such bulky items, and they will try to pick them up on your next regularly scheduled collection day. If they are unable to pick up your bulky items, you must remove them from the curb in accordance with City ordinance (see above) and replace them curbside on your next regularly scheduled collection day.
In addition, the City conducts two annual City Clean Up events (usually in the spring and fall) where citizens may dispose of additional non-hazardous waste. Notice of date and time of the Clean Up Days will be posted on our website and included with your utility bill.
