With freezing temperatures expected, Lago Vista Animal Control Officers remind residents that Texas law requires pets to be protected from extreme cold.
🐶 Texas Safe Outdoor Dogs Act
Texas Health & Safety Code §§ 821.101–821.102
Dogs kept outdoors must have adequate shelter from extreme weather, access to unfrozen potable water, and humane restraints. Law enforcement and Animal Control may intervene immediately for violations.
🐾 Texas Penal Code § 42.092
Failing to provide necessary food, water, care, or shelter — including leaving animals exposed to extreme cold — may constitute animal cruelty.
💡 The safest option during freezing weather is to bring pets indoors whenever possible.
