1. When is the Police Department open?

We are open 24 hours a day, seven days a week. However, the administrative offices and records division are only open Monday through Thursday, from Monday through Thursday from 7:00 a.m. to 6:00 p.m. If you need assistance on weekends or after hours please call 512-267-7141 to request assistance.

2. How Do I Commend a Police Employee?

The Lago Vista Police Department is committed to providing the highest quality of police service to the community. Our mission is to engage, inspire, and protect everyone, and our guiding values are community, empathy, accountability, and honor. In order to recognize excellence within our department, it is helpful to have community input. We encourage and request our community members to provide the information below for department member recognition. File a compliment can be filled out on the LVPD website using our new forms, which are available online. The online version of the form also allows community members to submit compliments anonymously. 

3. How can I file a complaint on a police officer?

If you have a complaint, you may do the following:

1. Come to the Police Department located at 5901 Municipal Complex Way, Lago Vista Texas. and speak with any supervisor.
2. Fill out a Complaint Form available in the Police Department lobby or at City Hall.
3. Download a Citizen’s Complaint Form (sworn affidavit)

Each complaint will be reviewed and appropriate follow-up actions taken.

5. How do you report or locate a lost pet?

To report a pet that has lost its owner, is causing a nuisance, or is being abused, please call 512-267-7141

 

Locating a Lost Pet

If you have lost your pet, contact Animal Control to see if it has been impounded. You may also contact the Lifelong Friends Shelter on FM 1431.

6. Filing police reports – when should I call 9-1-1?

Residents should call 9-1-1 only for police, fire, or medical emergencies. When calling 9-1-1, stay on the line and try to remain calm with your information ready. For our non-emergency line, please call (512)267-7141.

7. How do I request a copy of a police report?

Visit our Open Records Page and fill out the request form.

8. How do I get a copy of my accident report?

Copies of traffic accident reports may be ordered  is now available through the Texas Department of Transportation (TxDOT) website. They are not available on the Lago Vista Police Department Report Database. Crash reports may also be purchased on the TxDot website.

9. Where do I get my fingerprints done?

The Lago Vista Police Department offers fingerprinting services using an ink format provided to the public for professional licenses, employment, and various legal reasons for Lago Vista residents only. No appointment is necessary. For more information on fingerprints.

10. How do I request a vacation watch request?

If you are leaving your residence for an extended period of time, you can request officers complete an extra patrol of your residence/neighborhood. We'll just need to know some important details to give to the patrol officers responsible for your area.

11. How Do You Request Officers Check An Area, Location Or Street?

If you would like our police officers to check on a location, street or area where you believe a continual problem exists, please click on the "Services and Programs" tab and navigate to Close Patrol Request. From there , you will have the option of completing an Extra Patrol Request form and submit it online or in person.  Click here to get started!

12. How do I register as an sex offender?

The sex offender must report in person to the Lago Vista Police Department to register or verify information. Registration is done by appointment only by contacting Officer Sylvia Arnold at 512-267-7141 or by email. Walk-ins are not accepted. 

13. How can I get my property back?

You can retrieve your property being held at the Lago Vita Police Department my appointment only. 

Property will be released by appointment only:

• To make an appointment, contact the Property and Evidence Unit  at (512)267-7141

For the release of property belonging to you:

• Make an appointment
• Bring a photo identification to claim your property

14. How do I schedule a ride-along?

15. Am I required to have an alarm permit?

The City of Lago Vista Alarm Permit helps the Police Department know how to contact a residence or commercial business owner in case of an alarm at a residence or business. The City of Lago Vista Code of Ordinances #21-01-07-01 requires all residential and commercial properties with an active security system to obtain an alarm permit. The permit form includes contact information for two authorized people for the police to notify if needed for an alarm permit.

16. Can I get a person’s criminal history?

Because of rules and regulations of the National Crime Information Center and the Texas Crime Information Center, it is not possible for our law enforcement agency to release criminal history information to individuals.

In Texas, certain criminal history information is available to individuals from the State of Texas Department of Public Safety. For further information contact the Texas Department of Public Safety by calling (512) 424-2000.

17. How do I get a driver license?

Obtaining a license in Texas is done through the Texas Department of Public Safety. 

18. Who do I call to ask about someone who has been arrested?

All information about people in jail can be obtained by calling Travis County Central Booking at the information at (512)854-9889 or located on the Travis County Sheriff's Department website. The jail is operated by the Travis County Sheriff's Office.

19. How do I get my vehicle back from being impounded?

The registered owner may retrieve his or her vehicle from impound by calling our station, (512)267-7141.

Public Library - Requesting an Interlibrary Loan

1. Who can use this service?

Adult library card holders can make requests.  Any overdue materials must be returned prior to request.

2. When do I use it?

If you are looking for a specific title that our library does not own, you may request to borrow it using one of two methods:

• In the library catalog, login to your account. Then select 'My Account'. Select 'Reserves' at the top of the screen. Scroll down the page until you see "Is the library missing something? You can request that we purchase it or borrow it from another library (ILL)." By selecting the underlined word 'request' in that statement, a box will open and you can enter your requested item, title and author if known. The more information, the better! In the 'Additional Information' box, please state that you are requesting this item via Interlibrary Loan (ILL). Or:
• At the Circulation Desk, ask to fill out a paper form with the pertinent information. The title of the item, the author or editor, ISBN number (if known), the format of what you want (book, large print book, DVD, audiobook, article), and anything specific or special instructions. Fill in your name, your Lago Vista Public Library (LVPL) card number, phone number, email address (if available), and sign and date it. Give the completed form to an LVPL staff member.

3. What happens next?

Our staff searches libraries within our system to locate a copy of your item.  It is sent to LVPL via the United States Postal Service (USPS). LVPL will contact you when the item arrives.

4. How long does it take?

Due to availability, search time, and courier schedules, it may take up to 2 weeks, sometimes even up to 4 weeks, to receive your item.

5. How will I know when my item is available?

You will be contacted as soon as we receive the item; it will be held for you for 1 week.

6. When will my ILL book be due?

Each lending library sets its own due dates.

7. What is the cost?

There is a return postage charge of $3 for each ILL item, payable when you pick the item up.

If an ILL item is returned past after its due date, the patron must pay all fines and processing costs assessed by the lending library.

Should an ILL item be lost, the patron is responsible for all charges.

8. What else do I need to know?

LVPL may restrict the number of items requested through Inter-Library Loan by an individual patron to ensure fair, equitable, and timely service within the constraints of budget and staffing.
